a painting on canvas

i sit in my lonely studio
painting a portrait of my life,
my palette of burnt orange and indigo
color my brushes and my knife.

i paint from the fullness of a life time;
i seek to capture the passion felt,
the bells of inspiration clearly chime
showing me lessons life has dealt.

but the colors seem not to sing
the painting is limp and dark,
although my ears hear the bells' loud ring
my heart feels cold and stark.

then into my life from a universe afar,
came a beautifully-divine muse
guided by the magic of a distant star
she lights life itself with brilliant hues.

i took the color of her lips
and found in the depth of her eyes,
the beauty to launch a thousand ships
and brighten cold dark skies.

i caressed her hair with my brush;
i touched the color of her cheek.
i captured the soft glow of her demure blush
and found the inspiration all painters seek.

now my portrait dances alive with verve,
it sings a song of love.
its moves as boldly as a river’s curve
its music is as soft as a just-born dove.

though distance may keep us apart,
our thoughts are often one.
her lovely words fill my yearning heart
with a glow like summer’s sun.

my life’s portrait still is not complete
for there are roads left yet to explore.
perhaps, one day I will taste her kiss so sweet
and pledge my love to her forever more.

i sit in my sunny studio
painting a portrait of my life,
my palette of burnt orange and indigo
color my brushes and my knife.

i paint from the fullness of a life time;
i seek to capture the passion felt,
the bells of inspiration clearly chime
a song of thanks for the good life I’ve been dealt.

still a work in progress…
